Blame it on Avenue K

So there's a joke that everything happens on Avenue K in Lancaster, CA. It's funny because it's true.

Usually the stories are about a stupid robber who got away with an empty money bag, a man shot with a bow and arrow, a house full of illegal immigrants or a new restaurant opening up, but this time it was different.

Brandon got home and said get in the car we're going somewhere awesome. I wanted to change, but Brandon assured me we wouldn't even be getting out of the car. Somewhere awesome...without getting out of the car...hmmm...my expectations were lowered. As we neared Avenue K and 60th Street West, Brandon let me in on his little secret.

There are only 4 locations in the world where Honda has paved in grooves (much like the ones that make noise when you swerve off the road) to make the sound of the Lone Ranger theme song. Two locations are in Japan, one in Korea and the other...Avenue K in Lancaster, CA. They did this to film a commercial with desert landscape in the background. Boy do we have that here.

As we turned on to Avenue K there was a long line of cars pausing and driving down the musical stretch. The road was bordered by news casters and photographers. Shouts from passing cars and honking horns were common. Everyone heard about it, everyone wanted to try it before it was too late.

Turns out having a musical road is a nice perk when you live on the other side of town from it, but pesky neighbors of this harmonious road complained enough that they planned to pave over it.

I'm so glad we did it, twice, because it really was awesome.
